Weighing Us Down

You know how when you are not doing so well with a task or goal that you do not really want to talk about it? Yeah, so, I'm sure you can imagine why we've been pretty quiet about our weight loss lately. But I do believe we are back on track. (fingers crossed)

Our latest weigh in has mixed reviews. Sweet man is up by about 12 pounds from his start weight back in August and I am down by about 5 pounds. So good and bad. We still struggle with doing well during the week and then going off plan on the weekends. Just have to get a handle on that and I am sure it will help tremendously is getting us to our goals.

Good news! We started Weight Watchers last week. We both like it so far. There is definitely a learning process that goes along with Weight Watchers and we are slowly getting it. I love how it forces us to keep track of what we are eating each day and how there is a place to keep track of our daily physical activity. Even if we go off plan and have a bad day, we still record it and hope to make up for it with extra activity points throughout the week. I'm praying this is the program that will work for us so we can get ourselves healthy!

Oh, the no soda thing, well I haven't been doing so well on that. I have managed to not start drinking it on a regular basis like I was before, but I still drink some ever now and again.

So to recap our weight goals, the man now wants to lose 174 and I have lost 5 of the 25 I want to lose. I read The Little Engine That Could to sweet girl the other day, and, well, all I have to say is "We can do it!". We can and we will.

Our Very First Day of Co-Op

This past Friday was our first day to participate in our homeschool co-op. My big little girl A was so excited to be going to co-op, just like she has been excited about all things related to school. I think we got us an academic on her hands; time will tell.

We got her all set up with a princess backpack and a Hello Kitty lunchbox and then the obligatory 'first day of school' pictures. Here's one:

It feels like there should be some catchy title to it about being smart, or filling her brain full of new facts, or something more witty than I am this morning. What it really is was her sassing us with "The sun is in my eyes!" Wonder if we can get her to reenact this picture for the rest of her school years?

We tried a few more times and got some normal looking ones, with the sun still in her eyes. You will be relieved to know that she survived the first day of school pictures and I think she will only be slightly scarred, not enough to warrant any concern. Here's another:
Of course we could have turned her the other direction, but then the sun would have been in our eyes, and that just cannot be.

There is a daycare behind our house and a chain link fence where the kids will occasionally line up and watch us and our shenanigans. This day was no exception. By the time we were done taking pictures there were a few little kids staring and wondering what in the world those crazy parents are doing. Big girl waved at them and off we went to jump in the car and head to co-op.
The first day of co-op went quite well, to me. She really enjoyed getting to be in a room of 20 pre-schoolers. I think the teachers made it through too. That is a lot of 3 to 5 year old kids in one room. Each class lasted 55 minutes and she had Pre-School Language Arts, Discovery Science, Little Artists, and Sing & Play. Oh and little baby girl had her own nursery class she spent the day in with 4 other littles.

I was assigned to help in each of the girls' classes throughout the day, starting with the nursery and going back and forth. I enjoyed getting to help with all those sweet kids and their wonderful teachers, and getting to watch big little girl in action. Those pre-school kids are fun and chaotic and more fun. Some of them had been in this same co-op last year and knew what to expect, but it looked like quite a few of them were new to this like we are. They all did so well considering it was new to them. My favorite moment of the day was when one little boy proclaimed to me "I drink my bath water!" How I did not bust up laughing, I do not know! Terribly cute. In the classes that I helped with there was a good mixture of learning and playing time. Of course by the 4th period, most of the kids were done for the day so it was a little more difficult to keep their attention. And there were a lot of awesome toys in the room to get their attention.

On the way home I was asking her all about her day. "Did you like having mommy help in your class?" "No. You need to teach your own class and not come in mine." "Why?" "Because when all the girls were quiet, YOU talked." Gasp! I'm so terrible! Oh, my little girl is growing up.

We are already looking forward to next Friday. The ladies that organize this co-op are doing a fantastic job of setting up all the classes and keeping things rolling along quite well. I think there were over 100 kids plus most of their mommies, and one daddy. My husband graciously offered to teach a class our first semester, so it is nice to get to see him there too. He is a natural when it comes to teaching. He is teaching the older kids and I know he'll do a fantastic job.

Hope you are having a wonderful day so far!

While I Slept

I think someone broke into our house last night. Scary to think that someone would break in and clean the living room and bathroom and do a load of laundry while I was peacefully asleep in the other room.

What a pleasant surprise it was to wake up this morning and see a cleaned living room and bathroom! Apparently while I slept last night my sweet husband decided to spoil me. He also steam cleaned the floors. How awesome is that!?!

Obviously not a thief, though he did steal my heart! "Awwwww" ;)

Okay, so if you are a normal woman, you've got to know what crossed my mind... 'See, proof that I'm a terrible house keeper! My husband stayed awake at night to clean for me, how terrible is that?!?' 'Seriously, can I not do anything right?' 'He must think I am the laziest woman in the world.' And my favorite, 'Hmmm, I wonder if he will clean the kitchen tonight?'

But I am not going to let my mind stay there, instead I will be grateful to have such a thoughtful and loving husband and I'll enjoy my freshly steamed floors.

Hope your morning has started out as wonderful as mine!

My goals today are to get that vapor rub out of oldest child's hair, love on my sweet girls, and figure out a yummy dinner. Do you have any wonderful plans for your day?

Mornings

For about a week now I have been sleeping on the couch. No, I'm not in the proverbial dog house, I just cannot get comfortable enough to sleep in bed anymore. Or if I do fall asleep, I will wake up in excruciating hip pain and will be barely able to walk for half of the day. So, the couch it is. The couch is wonderful. I can bounce out of "bed" with almost no pain, wait, can women in their 3rd trimester bounce? Okay, let's reword that, I can roll out of bed with almost no pain! I can walk without looking like a 95 year old woman, make that a 95 year old pregnant woman. Did I mention it has been wonderful?

Obviously sleeping on the couch means my sweet husband was in bed alone, well, let's face it not alone, our sweet little girl refuses to sleep in her own bed so our bed it is. I really need to get that under control, but all I want to do right now is sleep at night, not take a toddler back to her room every time she gets up. I suppose I should just bite the bullet and forgo some sleep to get this done. Anyway, back to my sweet husband, after a couple nights he decided he wanted to sleep in the same room as me and dug out the air mattress and has been sleeping on that in the living room floor for a few nights. I know it cannot be the best night of sleep for him, yet I'm so thankful that he is doing this because I can still feel like we are sleeping together.

With everyone sleeping in the living room, after sweet man goes to work in the morning I have been just sitting on the couch and catching up on Facebook, Pinterest, pregnancy boards, you name it. I could start cleaning up around the house, but then that would wake up sweet girl and I do not like dealing with a grouchy sweet girl at all. This girl is a handful when she hasn't gotten enough sleep, so much like her mommy she is. So I do believe I'll keep with my routine for a while longer, who knows, maybe one day soon (preferably before baby comes) I'll be able to sleep in bed again.

Hope your routines are a little more exciting than mine!

Sunday

Today was another great day! We have another new brother in Christ, that makes 2 this weekend!! Always wonderful to welcome a new Christian to the fold.

Here is a quick rundown of the day:
I taught sweet girl's Bible class this morning since her regular teacher has lost her voice. My husband preached the sermon this morning and did great as always. We went to lunch with some of the members at Smithfield church of Christ and had fun getting to know them a little bit better. Everyone at Smithfield has been so friendly and we are really enjoying worshiping and working with them all. This evening we had a guest preacher and he did a great job too, then we went out to dinner with some more friends from Smithfield. It is such a blessing to have christian friends we can fellowship with and enjoy ourselves without having to worry about worldy influences.

Sweet girl is fast asleep and I think sweet man is probably getting close to that point too, so I better get myself in bed. Have a wonderful night!

Countdown to Baby A

Yesterday our doctor decided she wants to induce me next Tuesday morning. At first I was about to go into a panic attack and tried really hard to keep it together. This morning I feel a lot better about it, I guess dealing with all the emotions yesterday and getting a chance to sleep on it has helped. Of course, come Monday night/Tuesday morning I'll probably be in a panic again!

Sweet Man is so excited! He has been asking for a couple weeks now if we could go ahead and induce, lol. I think the not knowing when she would come was really making him nervous. Now that we have a date set and an actual day to countdown to he'll probably start getting just as anxious as I have been.

So, in 5 days we should have a precious little baby girl in our arms. I suppose this new reality won't hit me until we bring her home from the hospital, and even then I'll probably be too tired to really think about it. Having a baby is pretty major stuff! haha I know people do it every single day, but it is a pretty big deal. It definitely isn't like buying a new camera or some sort of electronics that you can return, where you are all excited about buying it and a little apprehensive about spending the money. Then you get it home and realize it is a lot more work to operate than you had imagined, so you return it. Nope, this is not going to be anything like that. We are excited, apprehensive, and we'll get her home and realize we were not at all prepared, but there is no way we are sending her back. So our lives will forever be altered come Tuesday and we can't wait! :)

A Life Cut Short

This past Sunday Husband and I drove out to Palestine, TX so he could preach for the Crockett Road congregation. On our way there we noticed a very interesting statue in a cemetery and decided to stop and look at it on our way home. While walking around and looking at different headstones we noticed one of a young girl who died on her 21st birthday. Yes, this is just an assumption on my part, but it occurred to me that she most likely died while out "celebrating" her 21st birthday. How sad! How sad to have your life cut so short!

So let us just run with this for a minute, let's say she was out drinking alcohol to celebrate reaching the "legal" age... I wonder, how many people were affected by the loss of this young lady? I wonder if they had it all to do over again, how many of them would discourage her from drinking? Would they still have taken her out to party? Would they still have bought her that first drink? If her parents had realized years prior the very real possibility that their daughter could die from a drunk driving accident, do you think they would have taught her about the dangers of alcohol consumption? Do you think they would have encouraged her to just stay away from it? Told her the evils of it? Informed her of all the pain it could cause?

This is just one example of many of how alcohol can ruin someone's life. We all have either experienced or know someone who has experienced the heartache and pain that alcohol can bring. Yet we still try to justify it. We say it is harmless fun. It helps us relax. It helps us forget. It... It... It...

This is what has been on my mind since reading that poor girl's headstone. It wasn't harmless fun, it very much was anything but harmless fun.

Becoming a Hendrix

I have always thought about blogging but never really figured anyone would read it. Now I realize that may be a good thing. ;) So here we go with my first ever blog post....

I should start by introducing myself. My name is Lisa Hendrix and I have been married to the sweet J.J. Hendrix for almost 11 months (in 2 more days). You may be wondering (doubtful, but who knows?) how this whole 'becoming a Hendrix' thing started. It all started in the summer of 2008. J.J. had recently started going to school with my brother at the Brown Trail School of Preaching. For some strange reason that he'll have to tell, he decided he wanted to get to know me without ever even meeting me. (this makes me smile) So on Sunday, August 3, 2008 he sends me a request to be friends on Facebook. I had heard about him and thought he sounded interesting, so I accepted and sent him a message the next morning. For the next 2 days we messaged each other constantly through FB and then on that Tuesday he called me, we went out to lunch on Wednesday, the circus on Friday, and have never been apart since. It didn't take long at all to realize that we were falling for each other! Over the next few months we met each other's families, fell more in love with each other, and in November he popped the question. I officially became a Hendrix on June 20, 2009.

Now this all happened very fast, even in our eyes, but it just seemed (and still does) right. It is amazing how God provides. I will continue to thank our Father for bringing J.J. into my life and for allowing us to become husband and wife. Not to outdo ourselves or anything, but a few months after getting married we decided that if God wanted us to be parents that we were ready. And it wasn't but a couple weeks later that I took my first at-home pregnancy test and just stood there saying "No Way!" about a million times. J.J. asks, "what does it say?", I respond "no way!", he asks, "so how do you feel about it?", I respond, "no way!". This continued on for about 10 minutes. So here we are, married for 11 months and expecting our first child on August 3, 2010. What is truly amazing about it, to us at least, is our baby girl is due 2 years to the day from the day J.J. and I were "friended" on FB. :) Yes, we're sappy like that.
